Sword And Sorcery
By John H Thomas Jr
In the magic realm of mind
In a land not hard to find
Stands a palace in a kingdom
On a mountain by the sea
And round that lofty kingdom
Is a hand built wall of stone
Tall towers rising mightily
Their banners waving free
Slender ships with crimson sails
Ply the peaceful, algae sea
And in the air above the clouds
Glides a cobwebbed aero plane
And watching from the Palace
In her sun-spun gown of gold
Stands the princess of the kingdom
And the next in line to reign
Then one night a darkness came
a silhouette against the wall
and creeping very stealthily
it found the royal bedroom door
Moon brightened eyes reflecting
a frightened but noble face
of the princess lying helpless
Before the Dark Lord’s evil spore
Like a candle flame extinguished
A brief flurry and they were gone
A chill wind in the summer moonlight
A sad prelude to the dawn
Volunteers were called for
And neither boy nor man refused
To join the growing army
In search of the royal heir
For in the heart of all who went
Was a never paling hate
Of the Dark Lord and his minions
And the evil, which they bear
The princess had a lover
who was born of noble kings
but fate had played him cruelly
in his once own peaceful land
He now oars an ebony ship
a slave of the Dark Lord’s son
but the face of fate was turning
and escape was near at hand |
And in the Dark Lord’s chambers
Hidden deep within the Earth
The pallid Prince sits patiently
as the spider for the fly
Armed with only courage
came that proud, non-fearing band
to find and save their princess
or to fight their best and die
Could the gods be that callous
to allow this travesty
could it be that Hell would triumph
and take away the victory?
The princess in her prison
Listened to the agony
of the battle raging loudly
Just above her gloomy cell
it was live men fighting phantoms
that appeared and disappeared
by magic black and ominous
Finding form in this icy Hell
Dressed as his evil rival
the prince entered the hated hold
to confront the ancient foeman
and to end his despotic rule
Surprised by this daring onset
The Dark Lord lost his nerve
and his life was quickly severed
the end of this fiendish ghoul
Now the prince and princess
bound as one again
like flowers on a summer evening
were cleansed by the falling rain
